Pisco y Las Islas Ballestas

After another night bus we arrived in Lima then quickly changed to another bus further south to Pisco. The unappealing town was still in disrepair from the earthquake 3 years ago. The only reason to stay there is to access the Islas Ballestas, known as the Poor Man´s Galapagos, which is what we did the following day. This was our first experience with the herds of tourists who have also chosen to come to Peru. The islands were unique rocky structures covered in bird poop that is actually a gold mine. The ¨guano¨ from the cormorant birds makes a rich fertilizer and used to be one of Peru´s most profitable exports. We also saw Humbolt penguins, Peruvian boobies, and sea lions.
La Candelabra:
Nobody is sure of the meaning of or who carved this massive design into the dunes but it has been there for hundreds of years.
Awwwwww.

One of the many arches carved into the islands unique structure.
Pellican fishing near the docks.

Next stop Ica.
